Request a Delivery or Read Receipt for your Email

Updated on

Atlanta Mission uses Outlook.com for all internal and external email communication. At times, you may want to know if your email has been delivered to the recipient's inbox or read by the recipient.

This article describes how to send an email with a delivery or read receipt. To learn how to create, reply to, or forward email messages, click here.

1. Click the three dots on the far upper left of the menu.

2. Scroll down in the menu and click More Options.

3. Select Request a read receipt or Request a delivery receipt depending on what you'd like to know.

4. Click OK.

A delivery receipt will let you know if the recipient's email inbox received the email. A read receipt will let you know if the recipient has opened the email.

In Outlook, the message recipient can decline to send read receipts. There are other scenarios where read receipts are not sent, such as if the recipient's email program doesn't support read receipts. There is no way to force a recipient to send a read receipt.

5. Click Send.

If the recipient agrees to send back a read receipt, you'll receive a notification in your email with the same subject line you originally sent the message with. You'll see it in the conversation thread in your inbox.

Time to start furiously typing out those emails.
